The Police Clearance Certificate, known as the Führungszeugnis, is an official document issued as a result of a background check by the police or government agency of a country to enumerate any criminal records that the applicant may have. It is seldom required by an employer to ensure that the prospective employee has a clean record.
The Town Hall is responsible for issuing the Police Clearance Certificate. The cost of the certificate is 13 euros and must be paid at the spot. It is sent to the mail address registered by you at the Town Hall. Generally, it takes from 1 to 2 weeks to receive the certificate. However, you are entitled to receive a receipt confirming that you have applied for a Police Clearance Certificate when you apply for it. Hence, if you are asked by your employer to present the Police Clearance Certificate, you can initially present the confirmation receipt, and later provide the Police Clearance Certificate itself when you receive it.
